As a business owner hiring a digital marketing agency to handle the social side of things, it’s important to be able to communicate with your agency about what it is that you want; without getting frustrated in the process. Remember, good communication is the key to achieving success. As much as we’d like to read minds, we’re often left with having to interpret exactly what a client wants through broken communication.

1. ANALYTICS

Any digital marketer’s secret weapon! Analytics is a collection of information used to set more refined targeting and improve consumer profiles; collected from running an advertising campaign.

2. BLOGGING

A must have for every company. Blogging is a term used for an activity where a section of a website is regularly updated in order to create traffic back to the website; normally by posting blog articles.

3. CLICK THROUGH RATE (CTR)

A percentage of a targeted audience who clicked on the message; directing them back to the landing page without aborting the process.

4. CONVERSION RATE

A percentage of unique visitors to a website who converted into leads or customers.

5. DISPLAY ADS

Also known as banner ads, display ads are paid advertising ads placed on websites in order to attract potential customers back to their own website.

6. KPIS

A set of metrics used to compare how well your marketing efforts are succeeding; in order to understand what’s working and what isn’t within your marketing strategy.

7. ENGAGEMENT

A simple term to describe possible interaction with your content; whether it be likes, shares, RTs, comments etc.)

8. ONLINE REPUTATION MANAGEMENT

The practice of managing a company’s online presence through strategizing and planning in order to achieve marketing objectives.

9. OWNED CONTENT

Content created by the marketing that’s unique to the brand/company; usually in the form of a blog post, infographic, image etc. portraying the message of the brand.

10. GOOGLE ADWORDS

An advertising programme owned by Google, allowing marketers to reach a certain audience via Google Search Engine Results Page (SERP) by placing a paid ad on the top or right-hand side of the search results.

11. PAID CONTENT

Advertising that’s paid for in the form of Facebook Ads, Google AdWords, Twitter Ads etc.

12. SEO

Search Engine Optimisation is the process of ensuring a company’s website appears as high up on Google’s search results as possible through strategic practices.

13. BRAND AWARENESS

Being one of the two main reasons for implementing paid content (the other being a conversion), brand awareness is a term used to explain potential customers being able to clearly identify your product/service.

14. CALL TO ACTION (CTA)

A term used to get potential to engage with your paid content; encouraging them to click through to the website, purchase your product, enquire, or even like your page.

15. KEYWORD

A phrase or specific word used by an online marketer within web copy, blog articles, social media posts, and even Google advertising in order to rank on Google.
